Debts and installments

Keep track of debts and installments, without the notebook

Jibi records what you owe and what you’re owed, in dinars. Note a debt once (who, how much, by when), then each payment as it comes: Jibi shows what’s left, what’s late, and when it’s all paid off. It’s free, in Arabic, French and English.

What you can record

  • Money you borrowed: from a friend, from family, or an advance on your salary.
  • Something bought in installments: a fridge, a phone or a car paid month by month, through a bank or not.
  • Credit at the shop: what you owe the corner épicerie until the end of the month.
  • Money you lent: to a cousin, a colleague or a neighbour, so it isn’t forgotten.

How it works

  1. Open Debts and installments and add a debt: “I owe” or “Owed to me”, the person or the shop, the total, and a due date if there is one.
  2. If the money went through one of your wallets (cash, Edahabia or CIB), pick it: its balance moves with it. A debt from before you used Jibi can be added without touching your wallets.
  3. When you pay an installment, or someone pays you back, record the payment. Partial payments are fine.
  4. Follow what’s left on each debt, the ones that are late, and the total you owe and are owed.

Why debts stay out of your spending

Borrowing or paying back isn’t spending: the fridge was spent once, when you bought it. So Jibi keeps debts apart from your expenses, statistics and budgets, while your wallets still show the money that really came in or went out.

An example: a fridge in 12 installments

A fridge bought for 96 000 DA, paid 8 000 DA a month.
InstallmentPaid so farLeft to pay
1st8 000 DA88 000 DA
6th48 000 DA48 000 DA
12th96 000 DA0 DA, paid off

Record the total once, then one payment a month. If the due date passes with something still left, Jibi marks the debt as late.

Questions about debts

Is it like a credit notebook?

Yes, for your own debts: instead of a page in a notebook, each person or shop has its debt, with every payment dated. Jibi is for your personal money; it isn’t a tool for a shop to manage its customers’ credit.

Does the other person see it?

No. What you record in Jibi is only visible to you, and nobody is notified.

Can I add a debt from before I used Jibi?

Yes. Add it without choosing a wallet: your balances stay as they are, and you can still record each payment.
